Short version: no accounts, no database. Your cards stay in your browser.

What is stored, and where

Your decks, cards, review schedule and daily review counts (used for the streak) are saved in your browser’s localStorage under the key cardsmith:v1. They never leave your device unless you export them. Clearing your browser data deletes them, so download a backup from each deck occasionally.

What is sent to the AI

Only when you press an AI button (generate cards, explain a card, suggest a rewrite) is the text you chose sent to our server and on to an AI model through Vercel AI Gateway to produce the answer. Cardsmith does not store that text. PDF files are read inside your browser; only the extracted text is sent, and only when you press Generate.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you personally.

Delete everything

This removes all Cardsmith decks, cards and history from this browser.
