Image to flashcards
Take a photo of a textbook page, your handwritten notes or the whiteboard, or paste a screenshot, and an AI vision model reads it and writes flashcards.
Draft cards
Your cards will appear here as they are written. Nothing is saved until you choose a deck.
How to convert an image to flashcards
- Click “Open file” and choose up to 6 photos, or paste a screenshot into the text box with Ctrl/⌘+V.
- Optionally add typed context, like the chapter title or what to focus on.
- Generate. The AI first reads the image, then writes cards from what it found.
- Check the drafts against the photo, then save and study.
Tips for better cards
- iPhone HEIC photos: share them as JPEG, or take a screenshot of the photo.
- Crop to the content. Fewer distractions means more accurate reading.
- Diagrams: the AI can read labels, but for label-the-diagram practice, cloze cards work best.
Good cards follow a few rules: one idea per card, one clear answer. See how to make flashcards, then review them on a spaced repetition schedule. Want to check yourself before an exam? Turn the deck into a multiple-choice practice test.
Other converters: pdf to flashcards, powerpoint to flashcards, turn notes into flashcards, or the main AI flashcard generator (also works from a topic).
Questions people ask
How do I turn a picture into flashcards?
Open the photo or paste a screenshot here and press Generate. An AI vision model reads the text (printed or handwritten) and writes flashcards you can edit.
Does it work with handwriting?
Yes, for reasonably neat handwriting. Good lighting and a straight-on photo make a big difference.
Are my photos stored?
No. Images are shrunk in your browser and sent once to the AI to read; Cardsmith doesn’t keep them. Only the finished cards are saved, in your browser.
How many images can I use at once?
Up to 6 per run, for example six pages of notes. Run it again for more.
